He attended secondary school in Augsburg and completed his Abitur. Meanwhile, he taught himself to play the guitar and performed for the first time in 1960 with his beat band "Roy Black and his Canons". He played in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago. He was divorced from his wife in November 1985. He began drinking again after previous alcohol problems. The LP "Herzblut" was released and was unable to build on previous successes; it only sold around 30,000 copies. In May 1986, there was a scandal on the television show "Na sowas-Extra" when Roy Black collapsed and had to be taken to a clinic. A month later, two new heart valves were inserted in Munich. Roy Black had to slow down from this point on and only returned to the stage in Berlin in December. In July 1987 he had great success with his songs again and Black started an extensive trip to Mallorca.
In 1989 he celebrated his film comeback in the TV series "Ein Schloß am Wörthersee". It became one of his most successful roles. Black played the hotel director "Lenni Berger" and became one of the most popular actors on German television alongside actors such as Uschi Glas and Pierre Brice. He also found stability again in his private life and met Carmen Böning, who gave birth to their daughter Natalie. On May 2, 1990, Roy's father, Georg Höllerich, took his own life at the age of 72. In the same year, Roy Black took over the patronage of the children's heart aid. With titles like "A little bit of tenderness", "Like a star on the horizon", "Ask Maria" and "I dream of myself with you" he was again in the hit parades.
Since filming for the production "A Castle on Lake Wörthersee" had not yet been completed, Uschi Glas took on the leading role in the series.
